Evolution of Indian Music since Vedic Era - An overview and rhythmic perspective
Invited to talk on Evolution of Indian Music since Vedic Era, at Ekvlavya Sanskrit Club. Gave us an opportunitiy to dive into the glorious musical past of India. Ancient Indian scriptures in Sanskrit, such as the Vedas, Natyashastra, Srimad Bhagvatam, Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavata Purana etc provide a rich literature relating to the origins, usage, forms, and evolution of Indian music. The genesis (origin) of today’s Indian music is rooted in these ancient scriptures written in Sanskrit. An understanding of the music related aspects of these great scriptures would provide a better understanding of evolution of music and musical instruments since time immemorial, as well as a better appreciation of music and musical instruments in their current forms. To read and enjoy these scriptures in their original language, Sanskrit, is highly enriching and satisfying. Soham assisted in rendering a Tabla demo and explaining the evolution of Tabla and its various rhythmic patterns.
